I picked this as I wanted something lightweight for the aging hardware of the MacBook 4,1 and I wanted a desktop that was a little “prettier” than Xubuntu’s default XFCE environment. I decided to go with Peppermint OS 10, a Linux distro based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

On Windows, it’s usually pretty straight forward, you increase some RAM cache and keep your disk defragmented on weekly basis – makes the PC feel like it was never booted up, and each time you do it’s like first time all over again. One of the first things I wanted to do when I first setup my Ubuntu, was of course look into the optimization abilities, and how I could make it faster than it already is.
